THE PACKAGING SPECIFICATION NOTEBOOK / Design the whole system

The base is more than a shipping accessory.

A corrugated enclosure and a pallet need to be considered together when the load is handled as freight.

Match the supported footprint

Record the proposed package footprint and the pallet or base dimensions. Show how the item and enclosure are supported. Ask the packaging and transport providers to review any overhang or unsupported edge.

Explain the handling equipment

List the equipment expected at pickup and delivery. Include access constraints and whether the base will be lifted from more than one direction. Do not assume every receiver has the same equipment.

Confirm restraint as an assembly

Ask how the packed item, enclosure and base stay together during the planned movement. Record the approved assembly and closure instructions. The final review should use the actual base design.
