THE PACKAGING SPECIFICATION NOTEBOOK / The specification notebook

A sample answers questions when the questions are written down.

Define what the prototype review should establish before approving a packaging design.

List the open decisions

Record dimensional fit, assembly, contact, handling and receiving questions. Share the actual product information with the supplier. Keep assumptions in a separate list so the review can resolve them explicitly.

Agree an appropriate validation plan

Ask the responsible packaging and transport specialists which checks or testing suit the product and route. Record the design version being reviewed. A general-purpose web calculator cannot choose that plan.

Carry the result into production

Keep final drawings, assembly instructions and agreed changes together. Confirm how substitutions or product changes trigger another review. The packer should be working from the approved version.
